This album is a live recording of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2026 New Year’s Concert, conducted for the first time by Canadian maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Breaking with tradition, the concert introduced fresh elements, with one-third of the program featuring works never before performed at the event, notably highlighting contributions by female composers including Austrian Josephine Weinlich and Florence Price, the first African-American woman to have a symphony performed by major orchestras. Nézet-Séguin’s vibrant and joyful interpretation infused new life into the historic concert, avoiding routine. Recorded at the Golden Hall of the Musikverein, the program includes both classic and rare works by the Strauss family, Joseph Lanner, Franz von Suppé, and others, captured in high-resolution audio for a sonically splendid and historically significant document.
