This album features Robert Schumann’s Violin Concerto in D Minor and works for violin and piano by both Robert and Clara Schumann. The concerto, completed in 1853, was long neglected after being rejected by violinist Joseph Joachim and misunderstood by Clara Schumann, only receiving its premiere in 1933. Violinist Midori, accompanied by the Festival Strings Lucerne, delivers a quasi-chamber interpretation that highlights the lyrical dreaminess of the slow movement and tackles the polonaise-form finale. The album also includes Robert Schumann’s Five Pieces in Folk Style and Three Romances, alongside Clara Schumann’s Three Romances, showcasing the creative dialogue between the composer couple.
