This album is a tribute by soprano Adriana González to her 18th-century namesake, Adriana Ferrarese del Ben, who achieved great success in Viennese theaters in the 1780s, known for her wide vocal range and dramatic style. Mozart composed arias for her in “The Marriage of Figaro.” Born in Guatemala, Adriana González began her career at the Paris Opera Studio, initially interpreting Mozart roles before performing as Micaëla in Bizet’s “Carmen” in Geneva and the Netherlands. Interested in the history of Adriana Ferrarese, she conceived this album’s program with the help of musicologist Karl Böhmer. The album features Mozart prominently, with selections from “The Marriage of Figaro” and “Così fan tutte,” but also includes rarer works by Soler, Tarchi, Bertoni, Giordani, Anfossi, and Weigle. This recording showcases Adriana González’s lush and sensual voice while reflecting on the ephemeral glory of artists and the passage of time.
