This album features three of Mozart’s famous serenades performed by the Munich Chamber Orchestra under the direction of conductor Enrico Onofri. It showcases the unique charm of Mozart’s serenade genre—originally composed for outdoor nighttime performances, blending original melodies with popular tunes of the day. Onofri employs a mix of modern and historical instruments, influenced by historical performance practices, avoiding vibrato while infusing the music with grace and charm. Highlights include the well-known Serenade No. 13 in G Major, K.525 ‘Eine kleine Nachtmusik,’ the expansive Serenade No. 7 in D Major, K.250 ‘Haffner,’ and Serenade No. 9 in D Major, K.320 ‘Posthorn.’ Violinist Isabelle Faust contributes as soloist in the ‘Haffner’ serenade, adding rich expressiveness. Overall, this is a refreshing and masterfully performed Mozart recording.
