This album “The Korngold Collection” features the Pacifica Quartet, joined by pianist Orion Weiss, cellist Eric Kim, and violist Milena Pajaro-van de Stadt, presenting the complete chamber music works of Austrian composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold. It includes three string quartets (Opp. 16, 26, 34), a piano quintet (Op. 15), and a string sextet (Op. 10), showcasing Korngold’s evolution from early to late periods. These pieces blend late-Romantic harmonic richness with Viennese melodic elegance, while hinting at the dramatic flair and color that would define his later Hollywood film scores. The Pacifica Quartet delivers precise ensemble playing and deep emotional insight, breathing new life into these early 20th-century masterpieces. Recorded by Cedille Records, the album received a Gramophone Editor’s Choice award.
