This album is a complete recording of Sergei Prokofiev’s classic ballet ‘Romeo and Juliet’, performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic under the baton of conductor Gustavo Dudamel. Dudamel served as music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic for 17 years, and this album marks the successful conclusion of his tenure. The recording showcases the fruitful collaboration between Dudamel and the LA Dance Project led by French choreographer Benjamin Millepied. Although the album does not capture the spectacular live dance performance, the audio version fully demonstrates Dudamel’s dynamic and colorful conducting style, as well as the orchestra’s virtuosity at its peak. Dudamel’s interpretation is refined and delicate, skillfully utilizing orchestration while avoiding excessive embellishment, always considering the evolution of dance movements. This is a successful recording that offers listeners a high-quality artistic experience.
