Earthly Solace: Eton Choirbook Reconstructions II is the second volume in the Eton Choirbook series by UK early music ensemble Selene Consort, directed by Daniel Gilchrist and released on the CRD label. The Eton Choirbook is one of England’s most important Renaissance choral manuscripts, compiled between 1490 and 1502, containing liturgical works by the finest English composers of the period. This volume presents nine motets and hymns including the multi-sectional O Maria et Elizabeth, the radiant Gaude Flori Virginali, the solemn Salve Regina, the expansive Magnificat, and the poignant Stabat Iuxta Christi Crucem. These works showcase the pinnacle of English Renaissance polyphony — intricate counterpoint blending with pure harmonies to create a transcendent spiritual atmosphere. Selene Consort’s performances are renowned for their precise intonation and warm vocal blend.
