This album ‘Enescu & Mendelssohn: Octets’ features the French string quartet Quatuor Ébène and the British Belcea Quartet performing masterful string octets by two composers. Mendelssohn’s ‘String Octet in E-Flat Major, Op. 20’ was composed when he was just 16 years old, displaying remarkable precocious talent with four movements full of youthful energy and Romantic passion. Enescu’s ‘String Octet in C Major, Op. 7’ was written when he was 19, blending Romanian folk music elements with new trends in French music, particularly its slow movement revealing intoxicating poetic beauty. The album not only showcases the genius of two young composers but also demonstrates the exquisite collaboration between two top quartets, offering a string music feast for classical music enthusiasts.
