This live recording, Symphony While the Swans Come Forward from Challenge Classics, captures Dutch soprano Johannette Zomer in Purcell’s theatre music, drawn from The Fairy Queen, King Arthur, The Indian Queen and The Prophetess. Across overtures, dances and arias, Zomer brings clear tone and dramatic nuance to Purcell’s expressive rhetoric, while the instrumental numbers retain their Baroque rhythmic sparkle. The programme moves between ceremonial brilliance and tender lyricism, making the most of the live setting. Issued in 24-bit/44.1kHz, the album preserves the immediacy and spatial detail of the concert experience—a vivid, intimate survey of Purcell on stage.
